The Nexperia Philippines Workers Union (NPIWU) is the labor organization representing employees of Nexperia Philippines, a semiconductor manufacturing company based in Laguna. It is affiliated with the National Federation of Labor Unions – Kilusang Mayo Uno (NAFLU-KMU), one of the largest labor federations in the country. The union advocates for workers’ rights, fair wages, and improved working conditions, serving as the collective voice of employees in negotiations with management.
The union gained prominence in recent years due to its strong stance against unfair labor practices and union-busting attempts. In December 2024, several union leaders, including the president, were dismissed by management during ongoing collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations, sparking protests and heightening tensions. By March 2025, the union organized a strike involving over a thousand workers, with some occupying the factory and others forming picket lines. Despite management’s attempts to suppress the strike—such as cutting off water, electricity, and food supplies—the union stood firm, backed by solidarity from allies and international labor rights.
Ultimately, the NPIWU achieved significant victories, including wage increases and the reinstatement of dismissed union officials. After a 74-hour strike in March 2025, management agreed to a staggered daily wage hike (₱17 in 2024, ₱19 in 2025, and ₱21 in 2026) and reinstated two terminated union leaders. These outcomes highlight the union’s resilience and its role as a powerful force in defending workers’ rights in the Philippine semiconductor industry. The NPIWU continues to symbolize the broader struggle of Filipino workers for dignity, fair treatment, and collective power in the face of corporate resistance.
